A003 Bison priscus skull

Amazing and large fossil skull of a Bison priscus. This steppe wisent was the ancestor of the forest and prairie bisons (Bison antiquus) as we know them today. Only, they were as much as 50% bigger.

Bison priscus could reach a shoulder height of up to 2m and weigh up to almost 1000kg. As grazers, they lived in large impressive herds, bulls and cows with calves mixed together. They lived in the Pleistocene until about 5,000 years ago.

This large and very complete skull was found in the Rhine River (near Karlsruhe), Germany and was dated at about 42,000 years old. The sutural lines come out very nicely, the eye sockets are intact and even the nasal bones and some of the teeth are present!
The skull is completely stable to this day and has not been treated (no lacquer, no 3D printing, ... )

Approximately 105cm wide, 75cm high. Sold including stand.
